  • Mauricio Pochettino faced his first defeat as U.S. coach, losing 2-0 to Mexico, ending a seven-match unbeaten streak against them
  • Mexico’s Raul Jimenez scored a stunning free-kick, while Cesar Huerta added a second goal, securing a vital victory for their team

Mauricio Pochettino suffered his first defeat as head coach of the United States, a 2-0 loss to Mexico.

After a winning start with a 2-0 victory over Panama in his debut match, the former Chelsea manager, 52, faced an early setback in this friendly encounter.

After the match, Pochettino admitted, “It wasn’t a great performance, but this type of game is perfect for us to learn. Mexico were slightly better and deserved the win. But for us, it’s part of the process.”

Mexico took the lead in the first half at Estadio Akron, near Guadalajara, thanks to a stunning free-kick from Fulham striker Raul Jimenez, who curled the ball into the top corner.

Cesar Huerta added a second goal to secure Mexico’s much-needed victory after they were booed by their fans following a 2-2 draw with Valencia last week.

The USA struggled without key players like Christian Pulisic, Ricardo Pepi, and Weston McKennie, managing only one shot on target. The loss ended the United States’ seven-match unbeaten streak against Mexico.

The game also marked an emotional moment for Mexico as they bid farewell to their most-capped player, Andres Guardado, who received a standing ovation when he was substituted in the 19th minute.
