Eight kidnapped victims rescued in Benue

At least eight kidnapped victims in Benue State have been rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army.

The victims were rescued by troops of 401 Special Forces Brigade following credible intelligence on an incident of kidnapping along Zaki Biam-Tine Nune Road in Ukum LGA.

Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 401 Special Forces Brigade, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday evening.

According to the statement: “Troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and rescued a Hiace Bus, belonging to Taraba Express International with Reg No KLD – 543XA, travelling from Onitsha to Jalingo with 10 passengers, including the driver.

“On arrival at the scene, weary that troops were closing in on them, the criminal elements absconded with two passengers, while 8 others were rescued successfully.”

Troops are combing the general area to ensure the other two passengers are rescued.

“The eight rescued victims are in good condition as efforts are ongoing to hand them over to the relevant authority, ” the statement added.
