  • The Administrative Secretary of INEC in Ondo State, Biodun Amosu, emphasized INEC’s commitment to a free, fair, and transparent election

Three weeks before the Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured journalists of their safety during the election coverage.

The commission also issued a warning to avoid spreading fake news before and during the November 16 election.

Speaking at a media workshop in Akure on Tuesday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, represented by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, emphasized the importance of accurate reporting. He revealed that INEC had made arrangements with security agencies to ensure the safety of journalists throughout the election period.

Olumekun highlighted the dangers of fake news and urged journalists to verify all information, particularly concerning INEC and the election process. He called for balanced, factual, and responsible reporting to prevent inciting violence or escalating tensions.
