  • Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, had declared that the LG polls will be held despite a court ruling prohibiting the process
  • On October 22, a federal high court in Kano restrained Sani Malumfashi, the chairman of the state’s electoral commission, from conducting the LG polls.
  • However, the Kano state high court on Friday ordered the KANSIEC to proceed with the elections as scheduled.

Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, has advised parents to prevent their children from being used to disrupt local government elections in the state.

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) will conduct local government elections in 44 LGAs on October 26.

Sanusi spoke with journalists at his palace on Friday.

The Emir urged residents to maintain peace and avoid violence before during and after the elections.

He harped on the importance of shunning violence and any attempts to disrupt the elections, adding that residents should disregard miscreants recruited to cause trouble.

Sanusi also implored residents of the state to cooperate with KANSIEC for peaceful and credible elections.

Earlier, Baba Dantiye, the Kano state commissioner for information, announced restrictions from midnight to 6 pm on election day for peaceful and orderly conduct.

Dantiye also noted that security agents have been deployed
