  • According to Maj Gen Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, Akila shot his colleague multiple times under questionable circumstances

The Defence Headquarters has detained a naval rating, identified as A. Akila, for allegedly killing a fellow soldier in Zamfara State during Operation Fansan Yamma.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the Forward Operating Base Dansadua.

According to Maj Gen Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, Akila shot his colleague multiple times under questionable circumstances.

“On October 25, 2024, at about 0312hrs, naval personnel LS Akila A., deployed at FOB Dansadua, opened fire sporadically, killing a military colleague,” Maj Gen Buba confirmed.

Akila has been disarmed, arrested, and is currently in detention. An investigation is ongoing, and the case will be referred to a court martial after the investigation is complete.

Efforts are underway to notify the family of the deceased soldier.
