On Thursday, operatives of the Nigerian Army took to the streets of Lagos State in a bid to clamp down on motorists and road users displaying military stickers and headgear on their vehicles.

This was confirmed by Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), in response to a complaint from a user, Ayo FBI, regarding alleged harassment by military personnel.

Ayo FBI had written: “Men of the Nigerian Army are currently harassing civilians at Brown junction, Aguda Surulere. They pulled me over for no reason, and their lead, who wore an MP armband, said he will delay me, make me follow them around Lagos for their patrol, and waste my fuel. This is nothing but an abuse of power.”

Responding to the concerns, Hundeyin said, “Thanks for promptly calling our attention to this. We have verified. The military police are moving round Lagos State to clamp down on motorists using military stickers and having military headgear in front of their vehicles.”
