  •  Obama expressed pride in Vice President Kamala Harris, acknowledging her as a “remarkable public servant” despite her loss to Trump in the election.

Former President Barack Obama, alongside his wife Michelle, has spoken out following the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, which saw Donald Trump making a comeback to the White House.

Despite their profound disagreements with the Republican ticket, the Obamas have congratulated Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, for their victory.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Obama acknowledged that while the result was not one they had hoped for, they respected the democratic process.

He emphasized the importance of accepting the peaceful transfer of power, even when one’s perspective does not prevail.

Obama also took the opportunity to express pride in Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the closely contested race.

Alongside Governor Walz, Harris was commended for running a “remarkable campaign” that showcased her dedication to public service.

The former president extended his gratitude to the campaign staff and volunteers who supported Harris and worked tirelessly throughout the election process.

“This is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, given our profound disagreements with the Republican ticket on a whole host of issues. But living in a democracy is about recognizing that our point of view won’t always win out, and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power.

“Michelle and I could not be prouder of Vice President Harris and Governor Walz — two extraordinary public servants who ran a remarkable campaign. And we will always be grateful to the staff and volunteers who poured their heart and soul into electing public servants they truly believed in,” Obama said in part.

Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, is now slated to become its 47th in January 2025 when he takes office following his inauguration.
