Police operatives in Lagos have rejected a ₦174 million bribe offered by Patrick Akpoguma, a 28-year-old suspected internet fraudster accused of scams, identity theft, and cryptocurrency fraud.

Akpoguma, who posed as fake personas including a U.S. Army officer and a cryptocurrency expert, admitted to defrauding victims and using a $11,200 silicone mask to bolster his schemes.

Assistant Inspector General Adegoke Fayoade said Akpoguma attempted to bribe detectives with $100,000 during the investigation. The money was registered as evidence, and the suspect will face prosecution.

Akpoguma, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, confessed to making over $500,000 in three years, owning luxury properties and a ₦100m GLE Benz. He claimed he turned to fraud because he felt “too intelligent” for a regular job.
