  • Okupe, who expressed strong belief in Tinubu’s reforms, said that the President’s policies would begin to yield results from the second year of his administration.
  • The former LP chieftain said that Tinubu had impressed him not only as a politician, but as a technocrat: “a man that is capable of deep thinking.”

Doyin Okupe has asserted that Bola Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, won the contest fairly.

Speaking in Lagos, Okupe, former director-general of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, stated that his party’s performance was satisfactory.

Okupe, who resigned from the LP after the polls due to ideological differences, has consistently praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Okupe questioned the legitimacy of claims that the APC rigged the elections, citing Peter Obi’s victory in Tinubu’s home base as evidence to the contrary.

He also pointed out that the APC lost elections in the home bases of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Secretary to the Government.

Okupe argued that allegations of rigging are unfounded, stating that the election results, although imperfect, reflected the general voting pattern.

He acknowledged that the Labour Party performed optimally, considering the circumstances.

Okupe criticized the PDP and LP for accusing the APC of stealing the presidency, labeling their claims as unrealistic.

He noted that every election in Nigeria since 1960 has been marred by some form of rigging, except perhaps for MKO Abiola’s election.

Okupe expressed confidence in Tinubu’s policies, predicting they will yield tangible results from the second year of his administration onward.

He praised Tinubu as a skilled politician and technocrat, capable of deep thinking and possessing inherent development ideologies.

Okupe likened Tinubu to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, citing his impressive public policy ideas.

He described Tinubu as a reformer who came into office well-prepared, despite facing significant challenges.

Okupe urged Nigerians to support Tinubu in promoting national cohesion and stability.
