The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has been named Vice Chairman (West Africa) of the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA).

The announcement was made by Lancelot Obiaku, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Imo State, who described the appointment as a milestone for democracy and leadership.

“His emergence as Vice Chairman (West Africa) and board member of the Democrat Union of Africa is great news for the state and everyone who believes in true democracy and people-centred leadership,” Obiaku said in a statement on Thursday.

Founded in Dakar, Senegal, in 1997, the DUA is a coalition of centre-right political parties in Africa and an affiliate of the International Democratic Union. The organisation advocates for democracy as a pathway to Africa’s full potential.

Obiaku hailed Anyanwu’s appointment as a recognition of his leadership qualities, calling it an honour for Imo State. “This enviable position was secured in a keenly contested election, confirming Anyanwu’s political pedigree and dedication to democratic ideals,” he said.

He added that Anyanwu, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, would use his new position to promote leadership development and strengthen democracy in Nigeria, West Africa, and the continent.
