  • The figure surpasses the ₦34.4 billion paid by his two predecessors, Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola, over a combined 12-year period

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced that his administration has disbursed over ₦47 billion in gratuity payments to retirees since assuming office in November 2022.

The figure surpasses the ₦34.4 billion paid by his two predecessors, Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola, over a combined 12-year period.

Speaking at an event in Osogbo on Monday, where bond certificates worth ₦1.9 billion were presented to contributory pensioners, Adeleke highlighted his administration’s commitment to tackling pension-related challenges.

Comparing the records of previous administrations, Adeleke said:
“Former Governor Aregbesola’s payments totalled ₦17.15 billion as of 2018, while former Governor Oyetola’s payments reached ₦17.25 billion by 2022. Together, they paid ₦34.4 billion over 12 years. In just two years, my administration has paid ₦22.67 billion for state pensions and ₦25 billion for local government pensions, amounting to over ₦47 billion.”

The governor emphasised his commitment to pension reforms and addressing pensioners’ grievances. He promised to improve the pension system and ensure retirees receive their entitlements promptly and with respect.

The bond certificate presentation forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to enhance pension administration and provide financial security for retirees.
