The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with C40 Cities, is set to unveil a $90,000 biogas plant at Ikosi Fruit Market, Ketu, during the annual Regional Academy.

Funded by the UK’s Urban Climate Action Programme, the plant will convert organic market waste into biogas to power a cold room, improve lighting, and reduce methane emissions.

The initiative, announced by the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, aims to enhance waste management and trader livelihoods.

The plant is projected to divert 0.5 tonnes of waste daily while reducing carbon emissions. It could scale to 35 other markets, reducing Lagos’s waste emissions by 3%.
