A female street sweeper, Anna Zadabin, tragically lost her life on Friday in Dutsen-Alhaji, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after a high-voltage power line fell on her.

According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. near the Open University Centre along the Abuja-Kubwa expressway. Zadabin, who was working with her colleagues at the time, died instantly, according to eyewitness accounts.

Her relative, identified as Hajara, disclosed that Zadabin’s body was initially taken to the morgue at Kubwa General Hospital before being buried at her family compound, as per her wish to be buried on the day of her death.

“She used to work from 6am to 3 pm daily,” Hajara said, detailing the route Zadabin typically covered during her street cleaning duties.

The unfortunate accident has raised concerns over the safety of street sweepers who often work in hazardous conditions along busy highways.
