  • Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede assured Nigerians that the Lakurawa group terrorizing the North will soon be eliminated
  • New strategies are being developed to combat insecurity, with enhanced regional cooperation to tackle cross-border insurgency effectively

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that the Lakurawa group, which has been terrorizing parts of the North, will soon be eliminated.

Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday, Lt. Gen. Oluyede disclosed that new strategies are being developed to address insecurity and improve the nation’s safety.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s collaboration with neighboring countries to tackle cross-border insurgency and noted significant progress in the fight against terrorism.

“We are hitting them hard on the Nigerian side. When we do, they tend to flee to Niger Republic. With Niger now coming on board, Lakurawa will soon be a thing of the past,” Oluyede said.

The COAS emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, stating, “We must work with neighboring countries because these issues affect them too. Together, we can address the threat more effectively.”

During his visit to President Tinubu, Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to improving national security. “I assured Mr. President I will do my best to make Nigeria safer.

I am ready to explore different approaches to achieve significant results,” he said.

Reflecting on his recent visits to the northwest and northeast military formations, Oluyede shared his interactions with officers and soldiers.

He urged them to intensify efforts to eliminate all forms of insecurity and pledged to adopt innovative strategies for better outcomes.
