President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier that the reforms implemented by his administration are yielding positive results.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the visiting German leader on Tuesday, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s readiness for mutually beneficial business partnerships with Germany.

Describing their bilateral talks as “very productive,” President Tinubu praised the eagerness of Nigerian businesses to engage with German counterparts.

“Our businessmen and policymakers are anxious to collaborate with Germany. Our business doors are open, and the reforms are working well,” he stated.

Tinubu highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations, focusing on partnerships that benefit both governments and citizens.

“We aim to foster people-to-people connections and government-facilitated opportunities for prosperity,” he added.

German President Steinmeier commended Tinubu’s leadership in promoting stability within the ECOWAS region.

He noted that Nigeria is Germany’s second-largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa and welcomed improved investment relations between the two nations.

During their discussions, Tinubu expressed concern for citizens in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, emphasizing the need for peaceful transitions to democracy. He criticized the reluctance of the military leaders in these countries to propose clear timelines for transition programs.

“We will not tolerate unconstitutional governments. However, we will continue to use diplomacy to reintegrate these nations into ECOWAS without punishing innocent citizens,” Tinubu said.

He reiterated that Nigeria would ensure free movement and trade in the region while keeping the door open for collaboration to restore democracy.

Tinubu emphasized that ECOWAS remains focused on the welfare of citizens in the affected countries, saying, “Whatever is happening, we are mindful of their wellbeing.

As ECOWAS Chairman, I aim to navigate these challenges through wisdom and collaboration.”

In response, President Steinmeier acknowledged the importance of reintegrating Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger into the regional bloc. He stated that doing so would significantly impact the economic and security landscape of West Africa.

The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their economic and diplomatic ties while addressing regional challenges collaboratively.
