The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two bank staff, Ekpe Anayaoha Okoronkwo and Umeonuoha Onyinye, for allegedly selling newly-minted N500,000 in N200 denominations.

They were arraigned on a one-count charge of currency racketeering before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Enugu State.

According to the charge, the defendants sold the newly-minted notes to one Husseini Ibrahim in October 2024, violating the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007. Okoronkwo pleaded guilty, while Onyinye pleaded not guilty.

The EFCC counsel, Rotimi Ajobiewe, requested a short adjournment to review the facts of the case, while counsel to the second defendant, C. N. Agama, prayed for Onyinye to be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of her bail application.
