Firefighters in Oyo State averted a major disaster on Friday after a gas truck caught fire along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway near the Agidigbo area in Ibadan.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement. He revealed that the fire was reported at 12:10 pm by a caller identified as CFM Adisa Kazeem.
A firefighting team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Adediji, was immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, they found a truck carrying domestic gas engulfed in flames, posing a severe explosion risk.
Thanks to the team’s swift response, the fire was quickly subdued, preventing a potential disaster.
“Prompt response of the agency curtailed and prevented it from leading to an explosion. It was subdued and put under total control,” the statement read.
The fire service remains on standby at the site to address any further risks.
