  • The ambush followed weeks of intelligence gathering

At least three notorious bandits were neutralised on Friday night in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area of Niger State, during a well-coordinated ambush by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives.

Sources revealed that several bandits fled into the bushes with gunshot wounds during the operation, while the DSS recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles.

The ambush followed weeks of intelligence gathering, including intercepting and analysing the bandits’ communications. A security source described the operation as part of ongoing efforts by the DSS in the Northwest and Northeast to neutralise bandits and terrorists.

The DSS has reportedly ramped up intelligence-sharing with the military and other security agencies under the leadership of its Director-General, Tosin Ajayi. These efforts have reduced ambushes on security personnel and aided the decimation of terrorist elements, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in the Southeast.
