Suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group attacked Natsini village in Kebbi State, killing two policemen and stealing more than 200 cows. The incident occurred Thursday night around 11 p.m. in Argungu Local Government Area.
Sources from the village reported that the policemen were stationed at a checkpoint on the Augie/Kangiwa road when the gunmen, numbering over 50 and riding motorcycles, launched their assault.
After killing the two officers, the attackers proceeded to a local ranch and rustled the cattle.
Abubakar Augie, a village resident, revealed that the stolen cows belonged to Lawali Black, a prominent civil servant in the area.
“The attackers overpowered the few policemen at the checkpoint before heading to the ranch and taking the cows,” he said.
Natsini village, located about 5 kilometers from Argungu town, has been shaken by the incident. Local Government Chairman Aliyu Gulma confirmed the attack, stating that the council was holding a security meeting to address the issue.
He added that the state government had instructed security forces to pursue the terrorists and recover the stolen livestock.
As of this report, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the Kebbi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, had not responded to inquiries.
