  • The IGP applauded efforts of the officers for their moves in curbing crimes and criminality in the past year, 2024.
  • He further charged them to improve on their anti-crime strategies to reduce crime drastically in the year 2025.

The Inspector-General Of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated specialized training for police officers, emphasizing human rights, ethical behavior, and professionalism.

The IGP conveyed this directive during a virtual conference with strategic managers, including tactical commanders and the force management team.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, NPF spokesperson, revealed that the training aims to enhance investigators’ capabilities in handling complex and high-profile cases.

Egbetokun underscored the importance of advanced training in bolstering CID investigators’ skills, upholding professionalism, and improving anti-crime strategies to significantly reduce crime in 2025.

“The IGP has directed that additional training and reorientation courses be implemented for all police personnel to project attitudinal change and ensure the consistent maintenance of professional standards in the execution of their duties,” the statement reads.

“These courses will focus on areas such as human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the proportional use of force, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to serving the public with integrity and respect.

“To further reinforce these efforts and ensure consistent knowledge dissemination, the IGP ordered the implementation of weekly lectures across all levels of the Force – Divisional, Area Commands, and State Levels.

“These lectures will serve as a platform for continuous professional development, ensuring that all police personnel remain informed of evolving legal frameworks, best practices in policing, technological advancements in law enforcement, and other pertinent developments that support the professional execution of their duties.

“The lectures will also provide an opportunity for interactive discussions and knowledge sharing among officers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Force.”

Egbetokun tasked strategic managers with being proactive, promoting professionalism, and maintaining public peace and order nationwide.

The IGP emphasized that accountability is crucial at all levels, with supervisors being held responsible for their subordinates’ actions to foster public trust.
