Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has cautioned farming and fishing communities in Baga against collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents, labeling such actions a significant threat to peace in the region.

Speaking at the district head’s palace in Baga on Wednesday, Zulum urged residents to restrict their farming to areas approved by the military to ensure safety. His visit followed an Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) attack in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of 40 farmers.

Zulum condemned any form of collaboration with insurgents, emphasizing that it undermines efforts to restore stability in the state. He also inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered irrigation system at Mile 3 in Baga, aimed at boosting agriculture and food security.

The governor announced plans to use the irrigated land for cassava cultivation after the wheat harvest, reducing production costs through solar energy. This initiative, he said, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving food sufficiency.
