Five bandits arrested as troops rescue 18 kidnapped victims in Plateau

Eighteen persons abducted by kidnappers in Plateau state have regained their freedom.

The victims were rescued by troops of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Operation Safe Haven.

The Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, made this known while addressing newsmen in Jos, the state capital, on Friday.

He disclosed that the rescued victims have been reunited with their families after profiling and documentation by relevant agencies.

According to Zhakom, the operation also led to the arrest of some of the criminals and the recovery of dangerous weapons, including ammunition and firearms.

Meanwhile, troops of Sector Five on Golden Peace Operations said they captured five bandits at a criminal hideout in the Tarangol area of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau, with several items recovered from the criminals, including fabricated rifles, rounds of 7.62 mm (special), cartridges, and daggers.

In the same vein, the troops intercepted bandits at Jannaret in Mangu Local Government Area while they were attempting to cause mayhem in the general area.

The arrested suspects are to be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution, while investigations are ongoing.
