  • ATBUTH in Bauchi slashed kidney dialysis costs from N40,000 to N12,000 per session, providing significant financial relief to patients
  • Over 45 patients have benefited from the subsidized dialysis services, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi has slashed kidney dialysis costs from N40,000 to N12,000 per session. This move brings much-needed financial relief to patients managing kidney-related conditions.

Usman Abdullahi Koli, Head of the Public Relations Unit at ATBUTH, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday.

He revealed that Prof. Yusuf Bara Jibrin, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), expressed optimism about the programme’s impact on reducing patients’ financial strain.

The initiative, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, includes providing a new dialysis machine and a large supply of consumables under the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This step demonstrates the government’s dedication to making quality healthcare affordable, especially during tough economic times,” said Prof. Jibrin.

He explained that the programme aims to ease families’ financial burdens and improve health outcomes.

With adequate resources, the hospital is well-prepared to deliver uninterrupted services to patients from Bauchi and surrounding states.

Prof. Jibrin also reiterated ATBUTH’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare while emphasizing the importance of public trust.

He assured the hospital would continue working with the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners to sustain and expand similar initiatives.

So far, over 45 patients have benefited from the subsidized dialysis services. One grateful beneficiary remarked, “This programme has given hope to many of us who couldn’t afford treatment before. It is truly life-changing.”
