The trade volume between Nigeria and China exceeded $20 billion in 2024, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai.
The envoy made this announcement during the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year celebration at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja over the weekend.
Ambassador Yu emphasized China’s commitment to deepening trade relations with Nigeria. He noted that China sees immense potential in Nigeria and is eager to work toward boosting trade further.
He highlighted that one of the strongest aspects of the Nigeria-China partnership is the close cultural and people-to-people ties. Events like the Chinese New Year play a key role in fostering these connections.
“Nigeria is a major African nation with global influence,” Yu said. As a BRICS partner, China aims to implement the 10 Action Partnerships to benefit citizens in both countries.
The ambassador also noted that the Year of the Snake symbolizes hard work, intelligence, and happiness. He expressed hope that the year would bring prosperity and peace to both nations.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Oraeluno Raphael Obi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, described the Nigeria-China relationship as historic. He stressed that the partnership is built on mutual respect and shared goals.
