  • Thanked the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years
  • Lamented recent events that underscored the party’s internal strife

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter addressed to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, dated January 30, 2025, the senator expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the party, citing deep divisions and irreconcilable factions as the primary reasons for his departure.

“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated.

The senator further lamented recent events that underscored the party’s internal strife.

“Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, the top party functionaries degenerated to the lowest levels by physically fighting themselves arising from the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable,” he revealed.

Nwoko thanked the PDP for the platform it provided him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which allowed him to engage with his constituents directly.

However, he underscored his commitment to fulfilling the promises he made during his campaign, a task he believes has been hindered by the party’s current structure in Delta State.

“Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realising these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he added.

Despite his resignation, Nwoko reiterated his dedication to serving his constituents and advancing their interests.

“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship,” he said.

The senator, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, emphasised that his decision was made in the best interest of those he represents.

“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he added.

Nwoko thanked the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years, wishing the party continued success in its future endeavours.
