Despite enduring relentless pressure, the home side capitalized on a counter-attack to snatch all three points.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men pressed for a late equalizer, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois even joining the attack for a corner, but Espanyol held firm.

The defeat marks Real Madrid’s third season loss, ending their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, second-placed Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 home win over Mallorca, closing the gap to just one point behind Real. The two rivals are set to clash in the Madrid derby next Saturday.
