Two people have died and five others sustained severe injuries in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Ogun State Police Command has said.

The crash, which occurred at about 07:15 local time on Sunday, happened near Danco Filling Station.

Police say the accident involved a Toyota Sienna space bus with registration number EPE 430 HT and a stationary luxury bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Transport Company.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, said in a statement that the Sienna, driven by Adewale Yusuf, lost control and crashed into the stationary bus.

“The luxury bus had stopped in traffic behind other vehicles due to a minor accident ahead when the Toyota Sienna, coming at high speed, lost control and crashed into its rear,” she said.

Two male passengers in the Sienna, including Charles Izuchukwu, a staff member of Babcock University, died from their injuries. The five injured passengers were taken to Live Well Hospital in Sagamu, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Last Home Green Mortuary.

The Motor Traffic Department has cleared the wreckage and towed the vehicles to its office in Sagamu for further investigation.

The police warned that reckless driving, excessive speeding, and negligence remained major causes of road crashes. They also urged drivers to avoid substance abuse, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and adhere to speed limits to prevent further tragedies.
