- Ahmed noted that over the past year, Nigeria’s CNG conversion capacity has increased by 2,500%
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has deployed five new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cascades at designated stations in Abuja to enhance supply and improve refueling access for users.
NNPC assured users of a smoother refueling experience, stating that it is actively monitoring feedback to reduce waiting times and ensure efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) revealed that approximately 50,000 vehicles have been converted to run on CNG. According to its Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, this is part of efforts to create a competitive gas market and reduce dependence on petrol.
Following the removal of fuel subsidies, petrol prices surged above ₦1,000 per litre in 2024, prompting the government to push CNG as a cheaper alternative through the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI).
Ahmed noted that over the past year, Nigeria’s CNG conversion capacity has increased by 2,500%, with 186 new conversion centers and over $400 million in investments for new refueling stations. The country’s refueling capacity has also expanded from 20 to 56 stations.
