Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has stated that probing the past administration of Kaduna State under his father, Nasir El-Rufai, is not a bad idea.
However, he emphasized that the investigation should be carried out with a clear and just intention.
Bello made this remark while addressing the ongoing political rift between his father and Senator Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State.
Expressing displeasure over the discord, Bello noted that he was not in a position to mediate between the two political figures. Nasir El-Rufai and his successor, Uba Sani, who was once seen as his political mentee, have reportedly been at odds.
Speaking on BBC Hausa’s Mahangar Zamani, Bello said he found the situation unsettling and wished for peace. “It is unsettling. I wouldn’t love to see my enemies fighting each other. I love peace,” he said.
He acknowledged that conflicts are sometimes inevitable in relationships but stressed the importance of maintaining ties. “Marriages sometimes break, and friends can cut ties. But it is important to preserve relationships, no matter what,” he added.
Bello also claimed he was unaware of the reasons behind the fallout, dismissing speculations. “None of them told me anything about the rift. I only understand that things are no longer as they used to be,” he said.
He also dismissed exaggerated portrayals of the conflict, comparing it to dramatic portrayals in Indian movies.
On the investigation launched by Governor Sani’s administration into his father’s tenure, Bello stated, “It is not a bad thing to investigate. But it should be done with a clear intention and not to humiliate anyone or out of personal vendetta. If you are doing it for selfish reasons, Allah will judge.”
When asked if he would mediate between the two, Bello responded, “It is not my job. My duty is to focus on delivering my mandate to the people of Kaduna North. I love peace and loyalty, but if I had an issue with someone, I wouldn’t address it publicly.”
He also praised his father’s political acumen, saying, “Politically speaking, Mallam Nasiru has no equal. He is focused on his work. He is my father.”
Bello concluded that he found it surprising that people expected him to comment publicly on Governor Uba Sani.
