The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has opened up on his strained relationship with president Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also disclosed why he pitched his tent with Tinubu in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.
Recall that El-Rufai was an integral member of the Northern governors in the ruling APC who before the party’s primary, insisted that power must return to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari tenure.
Tinubu later emerged as the party’s candidate and won the election against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP.
But months after his emergence as president, the relationship between Tinubu and El-Rufai turned sour, with many saying the breakdown of their friendship is not unconnected to the refusal of Tinubu to give El-Rufai a ministerial position.
El-Rufai, of late has been critical of the Tinubu administration and the APC.
This has resulted in constant exchange of words between him and some aides of the President on X.
In a post on X, El-Rufai, said his support for President Bola Tinubu’s election in 2023 was never to gain any favour in return.
He stated that he had no personal expectations from his political contributions, stressing that the developing events were simply a reflection of human nature.
“We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well. Thanks anyway,” he tweeted.
