The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has summoned officers accused of releasing a murder suspect after allegedly collecting a bribe.

The case involves the killing of Joshua Moses, a labourer at a construction site in Gidan Rago, Aso B, Karu Local Government Area. Witnesses say he was stabbed to death by a gang member demanding a “development levy” from workers.

Police initially arrested the suspect but later freed him, reportedly after receiving a cash payment from a gang leader known as ‘Mai Angwa.’ Officers later claimed the suspect had escaped.

The victim’s family accused the Investigative Police Officer, Clement Usman, and the Divisional Police Officer of Aso A Police Station of misconduct. Following public outcry, the police commissioner has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Efforts to get a response from the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, were unsuccessful. However, he previously confirmed that the summoned officers have been directed to report to the state headquarters.
