- The meeting followed a similar one held in Lagos on June 10, 2024, during which Sanwo-Olu was unanimously appointed Chairman of the Forum.
Governors from the south-west region have agreed to form a joint surveillance team to tackle rising insecurity.
The governors also planned to create joint food hubs to address food inflation and related challenges, promoting regional security.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, forum chairman, disclosed this while reading a communique at the end of a meeting held at Lagos House, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu stated that this move responds to emerging security threats that undermine the region’s peace and stability.
“The Forum agreed to appoint special security advisors and establish a Joint Surveillance Monitoring Team to oversee regional security efforts,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“And as part of the resolution, the Forum will deploy advanced technology, including area surveillance systems, to enhance security operations.”
“Additionally, the Forum resolved to strengthen intelligence gathering through collaboration between state security operatives and federal authorities.”
In attendance were governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Dapo Abiodun, Seyi Makinde, Ademola Adeleke, and Biodun Oyebanji.
Earlier, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, stated that the meeting would focus on regional issues, including agriculture and the South-West Development Commission.
The south-west governors forum represents the six governors in the region.
