Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce claimed a dominant 3-0 victory over Anderlecht in the first leg of their Europa League knockout phase play-off on Thursday, while Real Sociedad earned a 2-1 away win against Midtjylland.
Former Premier League stars Dusan Tadic and Edin Dzeko found the net in the first half for Fenerbahce. Morocco international Youssef En-Nesyri then sealed the win with a header, giving the Turkish side a strong advantage.
Real Sociedad also took a step towards qualification with a crucial away win in Denmark. A penalty from Brais Mendez and a stunning goal by Japan international Takefusa Kubo secured the victory, despite Adam Buksa pulling one back for Midtjylland.
Both teams will head into the second leg with a firm grip on their respective ties.
