The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reacted to the tragic airstrike that occurred on Saturday at Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward, Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.
Reports revealed that an airstrike targeting bandits mistakenly killed a family of six and another individual.
In a statement on Monday, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Olusola Akinboyewa, announced that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, had ordered a thorough investigation.
He explained that the airstrike was part of an operation to repel an attack on Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Katsina State Community Watch Corps personnel.
According to him, intelligence confirmed that bandits had already killed two officers and four vigilantes in the area before taking shelter at Yauni Hill.
“In response, NAF deployed air assets for an interdiction mission. The targets were identified and engaged upon arrival,” Akinboyewa stated.
He described reports of civilian casualties as deeply concerning but stressed that they remained allegations until the investigation was complete.
“As a professional force, NAF follows strict rules of engagement and international standards. Our priority remains protecting Nigeria and its citizens.”
Akinboyewa added that the Chief of Air Staff had ordered an urgent probe to verify the claims and take necessary actions based on findings.
He urged the public to stay calm while investigations continued, assuring that NAF remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and protecting innocent lives.
