A local who spoke in confidence with newsmen because he was authorised to do so on Monday, said the mother, who was a petty trader, and her two children who were identified as Bukola and Ife aged 16 and 11 respectively were trapped in the inferno while their building was destroyed.

The source said, “Efforts by neighbours to rescue them (the victims) were unsuccessful due to the unavailability of the state fire service at the scene. When the fire was raging, we called the fire service only to be informed that there was no water and chemicals to put out the fire.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, in the state, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

The PPRO said, “The incident happened in Ondo yesterday (Sunday) and it involved a woman and her two children. Their remains have been deposited at the morgue by the police.”
