- Obi suggested that Indonesia’s approach to supporting MSMEs could be a model for Nigeria
Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has urged the immediate reopening of markets not involved in illegal drug trading.
He emphasized the importance of protecting small businesses, citing them as a vital component of Nigeria’s economy.
Obi criticized leadership for making uninformed decisions, lacking understanding of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He argued that such policies stifle economic growth instead of supporting it.
Obi suggested that Indonesia’s approach to supporting MSMEs could be a model for Nigeria, highlighting that Indonesian MSMEs provide over 90% of employment.
During his tenure as Anambra state governor, Obi took proactive steps to support small businesses. He secured special loans for MSMEs through a partnership with the Bank of Industry and facilitated the establishment of a Bank of Industry branch in Anambra.
Obi’s economic plan includes securing Nigeria, uniting the country, and promoting production-centered growth for food security and export. He also aims to restructure the polity, fight corruption, and enthrone the rule of law.
