The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has dismantled 18 illegal refining sites, arrested 17 suspects, and seized over 25,000 litres of stolen products in a series of raids across the Niger Delta region.

The operations, conducted between 17 and 23 February 2025, targeted illicit activities in Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states, according to Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma.

Troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, also destroyed 10 boats used for oil theft and other illegal operations.

“In Rivers State, around Kilometre 45 in the Idama area of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, troops destroyed two active illegal refining sites and intercepted three wooden boats carrying over 9,000 litres of stolen crude,” Danjuma said.

In Bayelsa State, security forces dismantled three illegal refining sites at Clough Creek in Ekeremor Local Government Area, recovering over 3,500 litres of crude oil and seizing a pumping machine.

Delta State operations led to the interception of a Toyota Camry carrying 16 bags of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and the arrest of six suspects in Sapele Local Government Area.

The General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Emekah, praised the troops’ efforts and urged them to maintain their momentum in tackling economic sabotage in the region.

The army said it remains committed to denying criminal elements the ‘freedom of action’ in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
