  • Despite the suspension, the chairman emphasized dialogue could still occur, and reinstatement remained possible if relationships with the party improved.
  • Dungurawa announced a committee would investigate the issue thoroughly and recommend a final resolution regarding the lawmakers’ suspension.

The Kano branch of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the suspension of four lawmakers from the national assembly for alleged actions against the party’s interests.

On Monday, Hashimu Dungurawa, NNPP chairman in Kano, stated that their suspension was due to their recent behavior, which conflicted with the party’s fundamental values and objectives.

The legislators affected are Kawu Sumaila, senator for Kano south; Abdullahi Sani Rogo, Rogo federal constituency representative; Abdullahi Rurum, Rano/Kibiya representative; and Ali Maadakin Gini from Dala federal constituency.

“These members were elected under the NNPP platform but have recently been acting contrary to the party’s wishes, beliefs and values,’’ NAN quoted Dungurawa as saying.

The chairman mentioned that these suspended legislators were given automatic tickets but later worked against the party’s principles after they had successfully secured their elective positions.

He further cited a recent event where Sumaila inaugurated projects at his university without the involvement of party members, considering it strong evidence of “anti-party activities.”

Nonetheless, despite the suspension, the chairman emphasized that discussions could still take place, and they might be reinstated if their relationship with the party improves.

Dungurawa further stated that a committee would be set up to examine the situation extensively and determine the appropriate course of action regarding the case.
