- Ekaette said Akpabio worked with many women when he was Akwa Ibom governor and there were no allegations of sexual harassment.
- Akpabio’s wife added that the senate president’s Akwa Ibom residences are never empty and that security operatives are always with her husband.
Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has claimed that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, is spreading falsehoods about her husband.
During an interview on Friday, Ekaette referred to Akpabio as a “disciplined and responsible” individual who would never show disrespect to her or their children.
Previously, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that her difficulties in the senate stemmed from her refusal to accept Akpabio’s inappropriate advances toward her.
The senator from Kogi claimed that Akpabio attempted to flirt with her when she and her spouse visited his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the senate president’s birthday celebration in December 2023.
Denying these accusations, Ekaette stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband, who shares a close relationship with their family, should have been able to hear the supposed discussion.
Akpabio’s wife further mentioned that the senate president’s homes in Akwa Ibom are never deserted, as security personnel are always present with him.
Ekaette pointed out that while serving as Akwa Ibom governor, Akpabio collaborated with numerous women, and no claims of sexual misconduct ever emerged.
“There is no way that a man as disciplined as that can think of taking a woman to his home. He has a lot of respect for me and the children,” Ekaette said.
“In Akwa Ibom, when he was a governor, a lot of women were involved in governance and none of them ever said something like this. The senate president is a very responsible and disciplined man.”
Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan have remained in the public eye after engaging in a heated dispute at the senate regarding an adjustment in seating arrangements on February 20.
