The Benue State Police Command has verified the freedom of three female students who were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
The victims were seized on February 25, 2025, while heading back from a late-night study session, raising serious concerns about security within the university.
Their release was made public on Thursday through a news flash posted by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X.
Following the abduction, the university administration declared a one-week mid-semester break to tackle security concerns within the institution.
This decision was detailed in an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” released a day after the incident and signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David.
The kidnapping triggered strong responses from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who urged urgent action for their rescue.
Although specifics about their release remain undisclosed, their freedom comes amid heightened fears over student security and increasing insecurity in Nigerian universities.
