Operatives from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s anti-cult unit raided a suspected cultists’ hideout in Ikot Effiong village, Ukanafun local government area, seizing illegal firearms.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, informed journalists over the weekend that the successful operation was conducted following credible intelligence reports received by the police.
She regretted that no suspects were arrested during the operation as the criminals dispersed upon sighting the officers but reassured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend them.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command raided a suspected cultists’ hideout at Ikot Efiong village in Ukanafun LGA, on the evening of March 6, 2025.”
“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums fled, abandoning one locally made pistol and two live cartridges, which were recovered at the scene. While no arrests were made during the operation, investigation is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.”
