- Wike, who is the immediate past governor of the oil-rich State, said Fubara has not been upfront and sincere about ending the crisis.
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has slammed Rivers State, Governor Simi Fubara, over the latter’s actions regarding the political crisis rocking the State.
Wike, who is the immediate past governor of the oil-rich State, said Fubara has not been upfront and sincere about ending the crisis.
Wike made this known while speaking during a media chat on Wednesday.
Recall that Rivers Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule gave the governor a 48-hour ultimatum to represent the 2025 budget.
Amaewhule’s ultimatum came after the Supreme Court, in a judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, ordered the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume functions immediately.
Subsequently, Fubara, in a letter, invited the lawmakers for talks but the invitation was turned down.
Reacting to the development, Wike described the letter on budget representation Fubara wrote to the Rivers State House of Assembly as ‘useless’.
Wike said that Fubara is not honest with his pursuit of peace in Rivers State and that he is only ‘playing to the gallery’.
According to him, Fubara needs to create a good relationship with the state legislature instead of playing to the gallery.
“Letter to the Rivers House of Assembly is useless; he’s playing to the gallery,” Wike said.
