  • Sani highlighted achievements in agriculture, education, and security, particularly in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas.
  • He announced the reopening of Birnin Gwari cattle market after 10 years of closure due to insecurity.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has restated his dedication to governance, stressing that his priority is serving his electorate instead of engaging in irrelevant conversations.

The governor expressed this view while attending an Iftar dinner with Kaduna Social Media Influencers at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Saturday evening.

Although he did not clarify the exact reason for his remarks, they were made shortly after his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, accused him of using the police against his supporters.

El-Rufai had levelled the accusation the previous week, following the arrest of Jafaru Sani, a former Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources under his tenure.

In what appeared to be a subtle reply to El-Rufai’s statements, Governor Sani stated on Sunday: “My preoccupation is to serve the people of Kaduna State, who elected me. I am not bothered by baseless and idle talks, which will add no value to governance.”

Sani further pointed out the accomplishments of his administration over the past 22 months, highlighting notable advancements in security, agriculture, and education across the state.

“We have made significant strides in addressing security challenges in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local governments. The Birnin Gwari cattle market, which had been closed for over 10 years due to security issues, was reopened last November, and business is now thriving,” he added.

The governor also tackled the long-standing issue of water scarcity, explaining that his government declared an emergency in the water sector immediately after assuming office.

He noted that water supply capacity utilisation had been below five percent but has now increased to 30%. Sani pledged to achieve full capacity before year-end.

Additionally, Governor Sani disclosed that his government cleared an N800m salary backlog owed to Kaduna State Water Corporation staff and paid N1.3bn in electricity debts.

He further mentioned ongoing initiatives to modernise water supply systems in all 23 local government areas of the state.

The governor extended his appreciation to social media influencers for their role in publicising government activities and achievements.

“I want to thank you for highlighting the achievements of our administration. We will continue to support you in your efforts to promote the good works of our government,” he said.

The Chairman of Kaduna Social Media Influencers, Malam Adam Garba, expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for hosting them for Iftar and acknowledging their contributions.

“This is the first time any governor has hosted us for Iftar. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to work with you to promote the good works of your administration,” he said.
