- Ganduje’s announcement drew the ire of the delegates and commotion erupted, bringing the meeting to an abrupt end, as delegates rejected a ticket without Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reportedly stepped down from his position.
Former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed the development in a post on his X page on Friday.
Bashir stated that Ganduje’s resignation takes effect immediately.
Ahmad wrote: “The National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as confirmed by multiple sources.”
Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, was said to have resigned due to health challenges and the need to focus on his well-being.
Ganduje’s tenure as APC chairman was dogged by controversy. Last week, during the APC north-east delegates meeting in Gombe, he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term without the vice president Kashim Shettima.
Ganduje’s announcement drew the ire of the delegates and commotion erupted, bringing the meeting to an abrupt end, as delegates rejected a ticket without Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate. He was whisked out of the venue by security operatives as visibly agitated delegates nearly pounced on him.
