Six traditional rulers in the Ijora and Iganmu areas of Lagos State have been removed from their positions over their involvement in politics.

The affected local chiefs were deposed by the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, on Monday.

The chiefs’ dethronement followed their presence at the flag-off of the Labour Party, LP, campaign in Apapa – ahead of the Lagos State local government polls.

The monarch claimed the chiefs attended the gathering without his consent, hence violating palace protocol.

At a palace meeting he called, where he tongue-lashed the chiefs for their action, Oba Oyegbami said the chiefs’ attendance at the event without his permission amounted to impersonation of him.

In a statement released by the palace, Oba Oyegbemi stated that his decision to remove the six chiefs was necessitated by the need to maintain “order and coherence within his leadership structure”.

Those affected are Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro) and Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro).

Others are Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere) and Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko).
