The national chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Ralph Nwosu, has said the executives under his leadership have resigned.
He said they stepped down to support the interim leadership of the former senate president, David Mark.
Nwosu made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja during the unveiling of the ADC as the coalition party for 2027.
He said the coalition was not just about seeking political power but repositioning Nigeria on the global map.
“My welcome address here today, I titled it Beyond Politics and Power,” he said.
“We must commit to moving Nigeria from the ICU to global reckoning. It’s not about seeking power. We have the capacity.”
He noted that the ADC had always focused on the rejuvenation of Nigeria and Africa.
“This journey started about 18 months back and we have had over 12 NEC meetings,” he said.
“When we were consulted, we said we have also been consulting because we are a party that believes in coalition.”
He said the party was willing to give up anything for the country’s progress.
“A day like this shows that we are ready to sacrifice anything for Nigeria,” he said.
“We don’t have any doubt in the man. We all have decided to resign.
Nwosu said Nigerians wanted a united political front and were tired of fragmented opposition voices.
“Nigerians are yearning for a coalition because they want everyone to come together,” he said.
The event, held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, attracted politicians across all major political parties.
It was originally planned for Wells Carlton Hotel, Asokoro, before the venue was changed.
The hotel management reportedly withdrew a few hours before the event, citing an “internal compliance matter.”
Notable attendees included the 2023 LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the former minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
Others present were the former governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, and former senate president, David Mark.
Akeem Baba-Ahmed, Rotimi Amaechi, Solomon Dalung and Odigie Oyegun were also in attendance.
Also present were former AGF Abubakar Malami, Dino Melaye, Dele Momodu and senator Eyinnanya Abaribe.
Others included Gabriel Suswan, Ireti Kingibe, Elisha Abbo, Uche Secondus, Tunde Ogbeha and Victor Umeh.
Laureata Onochie, Liyel Imoke, Bolaji Abdullahi and other political figures also attended the event.
