- ADC insists it supports reform but condemns elitist hijack disguised as people-centred revolution.
- Matara urges members to reject imposition and stand for transparent, accountable leadership.
The African Democratic Congress has urged its members nationwide to resist attempts by some politicians to hijack the party’s structure.
The party made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the national publicity secretary, Dr Musa Isa Matara, in Abuja.
It warned that any leadership change not approved by a constitutionally recognised national convention or National Executive Committee remains invalid.
The party said it welcomed coalitions and reforms but rejected imposition and elitist-driven takeovers masked as revolutionary change.
“We stand firmly on the side of accountable leadership, transparent decision-making and a people-powered party structure,” the statement read.
“Any process that excludes the very people it claims to serve is undemocratic and must be challenged,” Matara added.
“We call on all genuine stakeholders of the ADC across states, zones, and demographic groups to reject this attempted takeover of our party.
“We are not opposed to coalitions. We are not opposed to reform.
“But we are opposed to hijack, to imposition, and to speeches that sound revolutionary but hide elitist intentions beneath poetic language.”
Matara warned that until a legitimate, constitutionally-backed national convention or NEC affirms new leadership, no one can speak for the party.
