A group of traditional rulers named Osun Group 12 has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.

This was contained in a congratulatory message jointly signed and released on Wednesday, July 2 by the President of the group, Oba Adedokun Abolarin and her secretary, Oba Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa.

The group while describing the elevation as a monumental achievement for Nigeria and Africa as a whole praised Mr. Adeniyi’s dedication to transforming Nigeria’s customs administration.

The group acknowledged that Mr. Adeniyi, as CG of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), has set new benchmarks for revenue collection, stakeholder interactions, and customs process digitization.

“For the first time in 73 years, a Nigerian will lead the World Customs Organization, which has 186 members. This is a strong demonstration of Mr. Adeniyi’s exceptional expertise, ethics, and imaginative innovations.

“As natural leaders of the people preserving the traditions and practices of our ancestors, we are prepared to assist him in guiding global traditions toward increased openness, inclusivity, and digital transformation”.

The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting capable Nigerians to take on global leadership roles, stressing that Mr. Adeniyi’s elevation reflects positively on Nigeria’s image and economic reforms.

Mr. Adeniyi officially assumed the role yesterday, July 1, 2025, succeeding Edward Kieswetter of South Africa.
