- Protesters demand urgent government intervention after repeated violent incidents leave Agan residents feeling unsafe in their own homes.
- Security agents arrive at Agan toll gate but maintain calm as the demonstration continues without reported violence or confrontation.
Women from the Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Friday poured into the streets in protest over growing insecurity in their area.
The demonstrators, wielding green leaves and chanting solidarity songs, mounted a blockade on the federal highway near the Agan toll gate.
According to Daily Post, Torkwase, a resident of the area said that the protest was ongoing and peaceful.
“The protest is currently ongoing at Agan ward, close to the toll gate,” she said.
“It is just about the insecurity going on around the area. We are tired and need the government to act fast,” she added.
She confirmed that security personnel had arrived at the protest scene, and the situation was still under control.
The protest comes amid frequent attacks and violence that have gripped parts of the community and the state at large.
