- Galadima said the coalition adds one more iron gate against dictatorship.
- He urged Nigerians to support political alliances that defend democratic values and civil liberty.
A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has described the African Democratic Congress-led coalition as a positive move.
Galadima spoke on Friday while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.
He said every Nigerian should support the formation of the coalition.
“In a democracy, people are allowed to air their views on any issue, whether positive or negative,” he said.
“For me, personally, I think the coalition is a welcome development. It’s one more dissenting voice or one more iron gate against dictatorship.”
He added that the right to associate freely is protected under the Constitution.
“And as a democracy, people are allowed to not only air their views, but associate with whosoever they want,” he said.
“The truth of the matter is that only Nigerians can decide whether somebody is expired, extinguished or refurbished or rejuvenated.
“Only Nigerians have got that right, and under our Constitution, is the right of people to congregate, assemble and chart a course, not only for themselves, for the country.”
He called on Nigerians to defend the coalition’s right to exist and function as a political block.
“I wish members of this coalition, I believe all well meaning Nigerians will support them and will support their right to congregate and assemble and form a political block because of what is happening in this country.”
